Witnessing

Today my toddler woke up looking for Totty (father)

He gets distraught when he wakes up and sees he has already left

He started to cry

I wanted to tune him out

Perhaps look through messages on my phone

As I do often when it gets too much for me

Then I paused

Breathed

And witnessed

He cried some more

And more

I did nothing

Except for some soothing sounds

Hmm yeah you like when tottys home when you wake up

After another minute he took his blanket and his pillow

Put it on Totty’s bed

Smoothed and straightened his pillow the way he likes it

And climbed into the bed

Layed down his little head

Covered himself with his blanket

and snuggled with his fuzzy lovey

Tears gone

Quiet.
